TERRAIN - Fields

For the game in September I want to make the terrain even better than last years. One of the things I am working on is a large amount of fields as a lot of the area we will be fighting over is agricultural. My plan is to have fields around the edges of villages and towns to give the impression of an agricultural landscape without having to completely cover the table in fields. So first up are a couple of fields to show what they will look like.

Irregular Miniatures sheep graze in a small field.

I wanted to have some agricultural machinery but no-one makes a tractor in 6mm so I decided to use a WWII Russian Artillery Tractor which I picked up at WMMS in a box of GHQ stuff that was being sold to raise money for a Cancer Charity. With the addition of a GHQ trailer and a suitable looking bit from the Bits Box I think it looks ok as some sort of crop sprayer.

Irregular Miniatures cattle graze.

Closer photo of the Irregular Miniatures sheep.

Double field with cattle and agricultural machinery.

I've got a lot more in production, including rebasing my corn fields, and will post pictures soon. I will also post some pictures of a village with fields to give everyone an idea of what I am trying to achieve. As always thanks for looking.

  2. Really nice, Richard. I always feel 6mm gamers lose out because of the lack of little non-military details that larger scale gamers can more easily source. Irregular Miniatures are a good source of such things but we could always use more.

    1. Thanks Richard, I agree but with a little imagination there are lots of things that can be scratch built in 6mm that look ok. Irregular Miniatures sheep and cattle are great and I also have a couple of their pigsty's. I have asked Andy K at H&R if if would add a 'generic' tractor to his list as they have so many uses both as set dressing and also you could use them as artillery towing vehicles which I believe the Norewegians did in the 70's and 80's. Got lots of ideas for more little dioramas which will hopefully add a bit more interest to the table in September.

    2. It would be nice to have a new set of generic civilian vehicles to replace the old irregular ones.

    3. Yes I agree, I got some Irregular bits in a load of 6mm I got from 'Gunbird' on the Guild forum. The Ford Transit is huge and is closer to 10mm than 6mm. Ian Armstrong had been working on a articulated lorry before his H&R days and I believe there are still plans to release it in the future which will be a good addition. There a few bits on Shapeways but the prices are astronimical!!!! At least the 6mm cars from China/Hong Kong are still available but I do wish someone made a tractor.

  4. looking good Richard.
Having travelled the road and route there didn't seem to be many hedges the Germans don't really ho into hedging their field boundarys like UK. The fields just seem to go on until it hits another village or a copse of trees. Have you seen coldwar blogs on FB today on Korea using tractors!
