Sorry it's been a while since I last updated this blog. The sad passing of my dear old Mum in July plus a complete change in employment has meant that I haven't had as much time as I would have liked to update. Now Fieldsway Scenics is up and running and getting busier I have a lot more time to devote to the Cold War Commanders and wargaming in general.
I have been busy working on the terrain for our big game in Grimsby on 12th-14th October and work continues in between commission work and some of the other chaps have been working hard on some terrain pieces especially for this game. As always the weekend is a massive joint effort and this year will see our biggest attendance yet with 18 fellow wargamers joining us for the event.
So over the next few days I will start posting some of the preparation work for Grimsby as well as some information on some future projects that I hope the Cold War Commanders will get involved with. Oh yes and there's the small matter of the D-Day game to start work on!
As always thanks for reading :-)
Welcome to the Cold War Commanders, a blog I am using to chart the exploits of the 'Cold War Commanders' a group of chaps who, inspired by books like Hackett's World War III, Red Storm Rising by Tom Clancy and the 'Effect' Series by Harvey Black, wargame fictitious Cold War battles in 6mm using the Cold War Commander Rules from Pendraken. TERRAIN - Oil Tanks
Another project that has been sat around on or near the painting table was a bag of 8 Oil Tanks (2 different types, 4 of each). Not the greatest moulds but a few bits of detail. After a bit of thought about the best way to paint them I decided on trying to sponge paint them with different shades of grey so after a black primer I used Grey Slate for the main sponge coat, followed by Platinum and then a final highlight with Grey Hints. All tester pots from B&Q.

TERRAIN - Hotel
Started work on some of the terrain pieces we need for the big Cold War Commanders Arctic Strike weekend later this year. First up is a hotel inspired by the one at Bodo, Norway. I can't remember which show I got this at, I think it was Triples a few years ago and not sure on the manufacturer either. J R Miniatures?

SLIMBRIDGE - Photos
As you have probably seen the Cold War Commanders down in Slimbridge held a couple of games to kick off the Arctic Strike theme to this years games. Mark F has very kindly sent me some of the photos of the event and for now I will just post them here for everyone to enjoy. Thanks to Mark F, Alan M, Gordon M, Rodger W and Mark J for sorting these games out. A great start to Arctic Strike.

SLIMBRIDGE - Arctic Strike Begins!!!
Last weekend Mark F, Rodger W, Mark J, Gordon M and Alan M met up at the Tudor Arms to kick off this years Arctic Strike games. All the photos are from the chaps themselves and I am posting them here just for show. I will try and post links to AAR's as soon as I have them but for now enjoy the piccies. These are all from Alan M who played VDV against Rodger W who had Norwegians.
